Wilmar’s Painting refinishes kitchen and bathroom cabinets across Oakland and the East Bay — a clean, durable update for a fraction of the cost of new cabinets. Free estimates.

Wilmar’s Painting is a house-painting company serving Oakland and the East Bay. Painting your cabinets is one of the highest-impact changes you can make in a kitchen or bath — the layout stays, the cost stays reasonable, and the room looks new. The key is preparation: cabinets get handled every day, so the finish has to be clean, hard, and well-cured. Call (510) 927-7886 for a free cabinet painting estimate.

Our cabinet painting process in Oakland

  1. Free estimate We look at the cabinets, count the doors and drawers, check the current finish, and send a written estimate.
  2. Protect the kitchen Counters, appliances, floors, and openings are covered, and we set up a clean area to spray or brush the doors.
  3. Prep Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labeled; everything is degreased, sanded, and filled.
  4. Prime and paint We prime, then apply finish coats to the boxes in place and the doors in our setup.
  5. Reassemble Once the finish has cured enough to handle, we rehang the doors, reinstall hardware, and adjust everything to line up.

Finish options

Cabinets are usually finished in satin or semi-gloss — both wipe clean easily and hold up to daily use. We use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams products made for cabinets and trim, and we can match a color you’ve chosen or help you pick one. Low-VOC options are available if odor is a concern.

How long does cabinet painting take?

Cabinet work takes longer than wall painting because of the prep and the cure time between coats. A typical kitchen is a multi-day project, and the finish keeps hardening for a few weeks after we’re done — we’ll tell you how to treat it gently at first. You keep use of the kitchen for most of the project; there’s a short window while doors are off and drying.

How much does cabinet painting cost in Oakland?

Cabinet pricing is based mostly on the number of doors and drawer fronts, plus:

Because the door count and the current finish make such a difference, we don’t post a flat price — we count the doors and drawer fronts in person and give you a free written estimate.

Frequently asked questions

What types of cabinets can you paint?

Wood and MDF cabinets take paint well. For laminate or thermofoil, ask us during the estimate; the right primer matters and we will tell you what to expect.

Where do you paint the doors?

We take the doors and drawer fronts off and finish them in a clean staging area, then coat the boxes in place. We will walk you through the approach for your kitchen.

Will the paint chip or peel?

The finish is only as good as the prep. We degrease, sand, and use a bonding primer made for cabinets so the topcoats hold up to daily use. Full hardness builds over the first few weeks.

Can I use my kitchen during the project?

Mostly yes. There’s a short stretch while the doors are off and curing, but the boxes stay usable and we work to keep the space functional.

Do you replace hinges and handles?

We remove and reinstall your existing hardware. If you want new handles or soft-close hinges, we can install ones you provide.

Do you guarantee the cabinet finish?

Our work is backed by a 3-year workmanship warranty. We cover finish problems that come from how the coating was applied — not normal wear or damage.
